Sarah M. Caputo, 94, of Dunmore, died Saturday in the Evergreen Health Care Center, Scranton. She was the widow of Captain Anthony C. Caputo, Sr., who died April 9, 2011.
Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late James and Maria Polda Vegiaro Pace and was a member of SS Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore and it’s Altar and Rosary Society.
She was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a seamstress for many years in the local garment Industry.
Sarah took many courses in Parliamentary Law and Public Speaking and Calligraphy courses which made her penmanship exceptional. She was the past president for St. Anthony’s School and Dunmore High School’s P.T.A., the Dunmore Women’s Club, Parliamentary Law of Scranton and Northeast Federation of Lackawanna County where she served in many workshops. She also served as secretary and Parliamentarian for the Dunmore Senior Citizen’s Club. She was an avid reader and enjoyed baking, cooking and sewing, especially for her grandchildren. She was always willing to help anyone in need and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the Nurses, Aides and staff of the Evergreen Health Care Center for all of their care and compassion.
Surviving are two sons; Joseph A. and wife Paulette and Anthony C. Jr. and wife Donna, all of Roaring Brook Township.
Seven grandchildren; Nicole Mead and husband David; Joseph, Anthony, Gianna, T.J. and Kaitlin Caputo and Matthew Caputo and wife Melissa; a great-grandson, Tyler Mead
Several Nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by six sisters; Angeline Williams, Margaret Pace, Ann Williams, Grace Capece, Lucy Brozzetti and Carmela Maza.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Smith St., Dunmore.
Interment; Fairview Memorial Park. Elmhurst
