Armand J. Ferraro, 93, a longtime Dunmore resident, died Sunday in the Forest City Nursing Center. His wife of 68 years is the former Lucie Mecca.
Born in Vandling, he was the son of the late Alfonso and Marie Guiseppe Beaver Ferraro. He was a graduate of Vandling High School and served in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater of operations as a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II. He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore, and had been active in church organizations.
Before retirement, he was employed at Daystrom Industries, Archbald, for many years. He was a member of the DAV, American Legion and the 77th Fighter Squadron. He enjoyed hunting, golf and horseracing and was an avid handicapper at the OTB in Carbondale.
Also surviving are two sons, Armand J. Ferraro Jr. and wife, Mary Ann, Longmont, Colo.; and Mark J. Ferraro and wife, Donna, Salsburg, Del.; four grandchildren, three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lena DeLeo; and six brothers, Fred, Joseph, Frank, Mike, Tom and John Ferraro.
A blessing service will be Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Fairview Memorial Park, 111 Route 435, Elmhurst. Interment will follow in the veterans section of the cemetery. All those attending the service are asked to arrive at the chapel by 12:15.
