In Remembrance of Werner Brodman

Werner Brodman, Boca Raton, Fla., died Monday in the Regional Hospital of Scranton.
He and his wife the former Judy Will, celeberated their 53rd wedding anniversary, March 23, 2011.
Born in Wurtzburg, Germany, he was the son of the late Joseph and Selma Hahn Brodman.
At the age of nine he was a victim of Holocaust persecution in Germany. He and his family fled to England and the United States prior to the start of WWII.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a co-founder of Casanova Meat Markets in the Bronx and Freeport, New York. He was a founding member of the West Hampton, New York Synagogue, and had served on the board of the United Jewish Federation of Palm Beach and had been the recipient of its Man of the Year Award. He also served on the boards of the Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis Societies.
He was a member of the board of the Boca Lago Club and co-chaired numerous Federation, Parkinson and cancer drives. He was a lifelong member of the Maccabee Soccer Club and maintained friendships for over seventy years with young men and women refugees from Germany who fled to America at that time.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Moses Taylor Hospital, the Regional Hospital of Scranton, the Nanticoke Special Care unit at Regional Hospital of Scranton and the wonderful personal care givers who assisted the family at this time.
Also surviving are a son, Joel Brodman and wife Lisa, Bellmore, NY, and their children Skyler, Hunter, and Marielle; a daughter, Janice Cutler and her husband Harris, Scranton, and their children Marcus Cutler and his wife Ayelet, Geoffrey, Joseph, Charlotte and Maxwell Cutler; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Lothar Brodman, and two sisters, Martha Mueller and Laura Sonnenberg.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel, 150 W. State Route 4, Paramus, NJ. Interment to follow in Beth-El Cemetery, Washington Township, NJ. Shiva will be observed Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at 3725 Henry Hudson Parkway, Apartment 11A, Riverdale, NY; and thereafter at the residence of Joel and Lisa Brodman, 2660 Rachel St., Bellmore, NY. There will also be a local shiva Monday, February 13th at Elan Gardens, 465 Venard Road, Clarks Summit from 10a.m. until noon, 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
