William Monk Thomas, 71, of Shreveport, LA, and formerly of Dalton died Wednesday in the Willis-Knighton Health Center in Shreveport.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Andrew and Florence Meyers Thomas, he was a graduate of Benton High School, class of 1958. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and after being discharged he went on to work for the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington D.C. He later moved back to Dalton where he farmed on the family farm for several years. In 1974, he moved to Virginia where he started a general contracting business and has remained in the construction business until his death.
Surviving is his former wife and best friend, Georgina “Pinky” Thomas, Las Vegas; daughters Gina Thomas, Las Vegas; Jennifer Douglas, King George, VA; and Tammy Winter, Culpepper, VA; brothers Samuel Thomas, Dalton; Joseph Thomas, Dalton; John Thomas, Shreveport, LA; and Michael Thomas, Dalton; sisters Patricia Klingel, Dalton; and Penny Hayduk, Factoryville; and special to his heart were his seven grandchildren, Darrin, Karrissa, Jasmine, Kenneth, Alex, Lauren and Samantha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was also preceded in death by a brother Andrew Thomas.
The funeral will be Monday in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with services at 10 a.m. by Rev. Thomas Petro. Interment in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Sunday from 3-6 p.m. in the funeral home.
