Anthony John "Junior" "June July" Del Vecchio, 85, of Dunmore, died Wednesday at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, after an illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Ann Holland.
Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Anthony and Philomena Talerico Del Vecchio and a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore. He attended Dunmore schools and was employed as a bookbinder at Haddon Craftsmen for many years before retiring. He was a World War II Army veteran and was president of the Bookbinders Union Local 97. Following his retirement, he was a vendor at Sugerman's indoor market place. Junior enjoyed spending time with his friends at various Dunmore locations, including Dunmore Corners. He was also a member of the Dunmore VFW, Tauras Club and the old Willow Club. He also enjoyed attending church picnics throughout the area with his wife and playing with his dog, Casey. Junior was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Barry Minora, the nursing staff of HCC Home Health and Hospice Community Care for the kind and compassionate care given to Junior during his illness.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas and wife, Nina, Dunmore; and Anthony and wife, Susan, Moosic; two daughters, Kim Kanavy and husband, Thomas, Victoria, Minnesota; and Dr. Donna Hart and husband, Donald, Scranton; two grandchildren, Caroline and Kristen Kanavy; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dominick and Salvatore; and a sister, Josephine Micciche.
The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rocco's Church, Bunker Hill section of Dunmore. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
