In Loving Memory of Adam P. Kupchik
Adam P. KupchikDecember 22, 1928 ~ September 5, 2015 Date of Service: September 8, 2015
Adam P. Kupchik, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday morning in the V.N.A. Hospice at Geisinger-Community Medical Center. His late wife of 54 years was the former Wilma Jakupcin.
Born in Olyphant, he was the son of the late John and Mary Gonas Kupchik. In his early career he worked in the garment industry and prior to retirement he was employed by Riccardo’s Market in Dunmore. Following the passing of his wife, Adam spent his retirement pursuing a variety of activities. He attended classes at Marywood University in order to earn his high school diploma, an accomplishment that he missed out on more than fifty years earlier. He was the oldest and proudest member of the class of 2004 at 74 years old.
Adam was a volunteer for Telespond where he worked for many years at Asera Hospice at Mid Valley Hospital in Olyphant. When the hospice closed, he filled his time visiting shut-ins and senior citizens at nursing homes. He was an enthusiastic member of WVIA TV and loved dancing at the polka parties that they sponsored. He was never at a loss for women wanting an excellent dance partner.
Adam was a member of the Silver Sneakers group at the YMCA in Dunmore, where he was a regular walking on the treadmill and lifting weights. He particularly enjoyed the sauna and whirlpool. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Church in Olyphant and for years he was part of a group of individuals who sat in vigil with the Blessed Sacrament. On Wednesdays from 8 to 9, he could be found in prayer and meditation for many years.
As busy as he was, Adam was a talented baker and found time to provide his family and friends with an abundance of delicious pastries and baked goods. He was as good a gardener as he was a baker and his garden was a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth.
Adam will be remembered forever by his children and their spouses, John Kupchik and his wife Elaine, Roaring Brook Township, Andrew Kupchik and his wife Karen, Dalton, and Julianne Opalka and her husband John, Ford City, PA, as well as his grandchildren, Christopher Kupchik, Bryan Kupchik, Drew Kupchik, and Jennifer Spinelli, and great grandson Cole Spinelli, as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Delaware Street, Olyphant. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Dunmore.
