In Loving Memory of Andrew F. Keating

Andrew F. Keating

Andrew F. Keating

Jefferson Township, PA January 10, 1941 ~ July 12, 2017 Date of Service: July 17, 2017

Andrew F. “Andy” Keating, 76, Jefferson Township, died early Wednesday morning in the Mountain View Care Center in Scranton.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late William C. and Helen Robertson Keating. He attended Jefferson Township School and went on to graduate from Lake Consolidated, Class of 1959. Andy served as an infantryman in the Army National Guard as a sharpshooter.

Andy was a man of many hats. He held several jobs over the years including picking up milk from several farms in Lackawanna and Wayne counties and delivering to Burshell Dairy and Woodlawn Dairy in Scranton. He was self-employed as a truck driver; he once owned an excavating business; and also drove school bus for the North Pocono School District.

He was a former supervisor and civil defense officer for Jefferson Township, an officer of the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7403.

He enjoyed drag racing in his younger years, farming and was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed coon hunting with his champion coonhounds. He adored his family especially his nieces and nephews who number over 100. They will never forget his love and generosity. They will always remember going with their “Uncle Ran” on trips in one of his many dump trucks and his famous trips to Kenton Ohio. He will also be remembered for his great and sometimes farfetched story telling.

Surviving are four sisters, Mary Lou Brundage and her husband Bob, Helen Harkins and her husband Mike, and Ann Zeiler and her husband Ted, all of Jefferson Township and Theresa Pierre and her husband Mark of Covington Township; eight brothers: John, Joseph and his wife Sharon, Donald and his companion Bette Watts, Charles and his wife Ceatana, Edward and his wife Mary, Willard and his wife Karen, James and his wife Carla, all of Jefferson Township, and Daniel and his wife Karen of Madison Township; and a sister in law Darlene Krukowski, Jefferson Township.

He was preceded in death by a brother William, an infant brother, Paul, and a sister-in-law Catherine Keating.

The funeral will be Monday at 10AM in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. Interment in the Holy Family Cemetery in Throop.

Friends may call Sunday from 2PM-5PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to The American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 15829 Arlington, VA 22215 or St. Joseph’s Center 2010 Adams Avenue Scranton 18509.

I remember going to the drag races with Andy. He picked up milk at the farm that I worked on and he would say are you going to get the milk out of the cooler and I remember him laughing as I struggled to get the cans out. He was a good friend and I am sad today. Hugs and prayers for the family. Love you all. RIP my friend.

Andy will be missed by many. He was such a wonderful person. We had fun at many auctions, buying cows. Rest in peace Andy.
