Danny Stango

Leesport, PA and formerly of Dunmore, PA September 10, 1925 ~ August 5, 2013 Date of Service: August 8, 2013

Danny Stango, a former Dunmore resident, died Monday morning at his residence in Reading, PA. He and his wife, the former Mary Lou Silvestri, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October  17th.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria Domenica Rinaldi Stango. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and prior to retirement at age 75, was a Life Underwriter with New York Life Insurance Co. for over forty years. In the insurance industry, he held a lifetime membership in the Million Dollar Round Table, a nationwide organization for insurance agents. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of both WWII and the Korean War; he served the former of which aboard the USS Barnes. He was also a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years.

Civic engagement was extremely important to Danny. He became involved with fundraising at the University of Scranton and was an avid supporter of the Kiwanis Club, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the fight against Juvenile Diabetes.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Danny lit up the room with his larger-than-life personality and penchant for storytelling. He touched the hearts of many with his vibrant, quirky sense of humor and endless repertoire of jokes. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting coins and cars, fishing with his wife, golfing, and speaking Italian with fellow Italians in Dunmore. His life exemplified his personal motto, “Do something nice for someone today.”

Also surviving are a daughter, Cathy Prall and her husband, Bob of Reading, PA, two sons, Daniel C. Stango and wife, Diane of Westminster, MA, and Mark J. Stango and wife, Diane of Springbrook Twp., PA, six grandchildren, Aimee, Katie, Mandy, and Jenna Stango, and Alaina and Robby Prall, a sister, Antoinette Perry and husband, John of Dunmore, a brother, Vincent Stango and wife, Diane of Dunmore, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 East Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass of Christian burial at 9:30 A.M. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore.

Family and friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Dear Mary Lou,
I just learned of Danny's passing, and I wanted to express our sincere sympathy to you and the family. It's been many years, but I still remember his enthusiastic personality. Of course, I also remember that it was my mother who introduced him to you. She passed away on June 23 at age 98. May God comfort you in your loss.

Dear Mary Lou and Family,

We are, indeed, so saddened to know of Danny's passing. He was a wonderful person -- we will remember him from our days at the "U" and thereafter with wedding invitations, etc.
Mary Lou, be sure to tell the "kids" the fun we had in our younger years.
We love you all and will keep you in our prayers.
With deepest sympathy,
John and Theresa Rolka
