Dorothy Kaplan, 102, a resident of Hazleton and a recent resident of the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania in Scranton, died Sunday morning. She was the wife of the late Phillip Savitz, and her second husband, the late Joseph Kaplan.

Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Elick and Jennie Goldstein Smith. Prior to retirement, she worked for Catholic Social Services in the Hazleton office.

She is survived by nephews, Robert Smith, Vestal, N.Y.; and Arnold Levin, Flushing, N.Y.; two nieces, Eileen Hoffman and Ellen Gittleman, both of the Philadelphia area.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Levin; and two brothers, Louis and Benjamin Smith.

The graveside funeral will be 1 p.m. today at the Augdas Israel Cemetery in Hazleton with services by Rabbi Michael Michlin.
