Esther K. Schwartz of Dunmore died early Monday at home.
Born in Scranton on May 12, 1931, daughter of the late attorney David Schwartz and the late Helen Weisberger Schwartz Mack and stepdaughter of the late Harry Mack, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and the Tobé-Coburn School of Fashion Merchandising in New York City. In addition, she obtained a B.S. in early childhood education, a master's degree in international education and a Ph.D. for her doctorate studies in international relations education from New York University in Manhattan.
She was an accomplished pianist, having studied at the Juilliard School and subsequently performing in Carnegie Hall. Later, Esther had also worked as a legal researcher for the Lackawanna County Bar Association. She was a quiet, charitable person, who was a member in perpetuity of Temple Israel and loved her miniature schnauzer, her companion, Winston.
Gratitude is extended to her caregivers, Mary Beth Ratchford, Dana Ciccotti, Esther Martino, Sharon Koezeno and her longtime friend, Mary Ann Dolphin, for all their love and dedicated care.
There are no immediate survivors. She was also preceded in death by uncles, Elliott and Seymour Weisberger.
Private graveside services will be held in Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore, by Rabbi Moshe Saks and Cantor Vladimir Aronzon.
There is no shiva.
