Frieda DePietro Rinaldi, 84, a lifelong resident of Dunmore, died Monday in the Hospice of the Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was the widow of Salvatore "Sal" Rinaldi, who served as a Dunmore Police Captain and who died on October 24, 1998.
Born and raised in the Bunker Hill section of Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances DeSanto DePietro. She attended Dunmore public schools and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore. Prior to retirement she was employed in the local garment industry and was a member of the ILGWU.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt whose true enjoyment was her family. She also enjoyed cooking and dancing, especially the Jitter Bug with her late husband, whom she also enjoyed long rides in the country with.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Douglas Klamp, Todd Kelleher and the staffs of both the Jewish Home and the Hospice of the Regional Hospital of Scranton for the dedicated and loving care given to Frieda.
Surviving are a daughter, Paula M. Grogan and husband, Patrick, Throop; and a son, Paul J. Rinaldi, Olyphant; five grandchildren, Patrick Grogan, Throop; Shannon Talarico and husband, Joseph, Old Forge; Erin Crotti, Dunmore; Caitlin Grogan, Philadelphia; and Paul Joseph Rinaldi, Mameunk, Pa.; seven great-grandchildren, Joseph, Bianca, Salvatore, Francesca and Angelo Talarico, and Isabella and John "Sonny" Crotti; two sisters, Concetta "Blanche" Portanova, Scranton; and Philomena Luciano, Dunmore; three sisters-in-law, Josephine DePietro, Naples, Fla.; Bertha Tomasofsky and Grace Summa, both of Dunmore; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances DePietro and Ann Marie Brando; and a brother, John DePietro.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 East Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rocco's Church, in the Bunker Hill section of Dunmore. Interment in Dunmore Cemetery.
