Helen Benkaim, died Tuesday morning in the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania. She was born Helen Tapper in Reading, PA on Feb 25, 1921 and grew up in Pottsville Pa. Helen married Jack Benkaim of Scranton, PA on June 22, 1941. Helen was a loving and much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Helen and her late husband Jack are survived by their children: Lois Anderson, Carole Goodman and Robert Benkaim and grandchildren Erik Anderson (Allison Hartry), Joshua Goodman and Molly and Russell Benkaim.
Helen was a Brownie leader in Scranton, an accomplished pianist, and was active in many community organizations including Hadassah and UJA as well as a business woman. She joined her husband in in the women’s apparel business in Salben’s, Schreibers, the Scranton Talk and the Household in Scranton.
Lois and Carole wish to thank the employees on the third floor of the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa, for their care and dedication to our mother for many years.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Jewish Home of Eastern PA , or to the Employees gift fund of the Jewish Home at 1101 Vine Street, Scranton PA 18510 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
