John P. Vitali Jr., 95, of Dunmore, died Tuesday morning at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Angela Beardell. The couple celebrated 61 years of marriage on June 26.

Born in Dunmore, son of the late John Sr. and Gilda Vicenti Vitali, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School. He was a proud member of the former St. Casmir's Church, Dunmore, and most recently a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton. 

He was an Army veteran and was stationed in Germany during World War II

Before retirement, he was employed as a bookkeeper for the former C&S Excavating. 

He was past president of the Dunmore Midget Football League and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and his faithful caregiver, Debbie Hodorivch, for all of their care and compassion.

Also surviving are daughters, Nina Macciocco, Dunmore; Jane Vitali, Stone Mountain, Ga.; and Louise Cross and husband, James, Kendall Park, N.J.; a son, James Vitali and wife, Becky, Loveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Maria McLaine; Joseph Macciocco and wife, Nicole; Michael and Antonia Macciocco, Annalyse and Gianna Vitali, Justin and Hana Cross; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Dante, Vida and Maddox; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Stella Burke and Helen Mangan; and brothers, Angelo and Eugene Vitali.

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Avenue, Scranton. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.

Aunt Ange, Nina, Jimmy, Jane & Louise(Buffy),
