John Robert “Jack” Mangan, Jr., 87, of Carbondale and a former resident of New Jersey for many years, died Wednesday night at home. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Vitali, who died in 1997.
Born and raised in Taylor, son of the late John R. Sr. and Bridget Murphy Mangan, he attended Taylor public schools, and was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served with the Seabees during World War II. Prior to retirement, he was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service where he received his gold card for membership with the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a member of St. Ann’s Basilica in Scranton.
Surviving is a daughter, Mary Ann Bunda and husband Donald of Carbondale; a brother, William Mangan and wife Ruth of Ocala, FL; grandchildren Victoria Jaretsky and husband William of Garfield, NJ, and Anthony Bunda of Belmar, NJ; great-granddaughter Caitlin Jaretsky; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of St. Ann, St. Ann St., West Scranton. Interment to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore.
