In Remembrance of Kelcey Alicia Hallinan

Kelcey Alicia Hallinan

Kelcey Alicia Hallinan

Dunmore, PA December 2, 1994 ~ November 16, 2013 Date of Service: November 21, 2013

Kelcey Alicia Hallinan, 18, of Dunmore, died Saturday afternoon at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Alicia Paulis Hallinan and was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Dunmore.   She attended the Dunmore Elementary Center and was a 2013 graduate of Dunmore High School where she participated in its Marching Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band, playing the tenor saxophone. She was also a member of the Drama Club, the Show Choir, was a cheerleader, and was elected the 2012 Homecoming Queen. She was very active in the NEIU Show Choir and the NEIU Arts Alive program.

Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma halfway through her junior year of high school, Kelcey’s friends immediately rallied around her in support, and the Dunmore community quickly followed.  Kelcey’s fight gained worldwide attention in recent months, but she always maintained humility.  She was inspirational to everyone that knew her, and to many more that never met her.  Kelcey taught so many people deep lessons about humility, love, strength, courage and perseverance.  She always had a smile on her face, even through the most trying times of her fight.  Kelcey had an inner light that shined so brightly, it will never be put out, and will be in our hearts forever.

Kelcey’s family would like to thank everyone that was on this journey with her.  There are just too many to mention, both near and far, giving all types of support and gifts—physical, spiritual and emotional.

Also surviving is her brother, Thomas; and sisters, Meghan and Molly; and maternal grandmother, Mary Paulis, all of Dunmore; aunts and uncles, Mark Paulis and wife Elissa, Queens, NY; Eugene Hallinan and wife Ann, Clarks Summit; John Hallinan, Scranton;  Joseph Hallinan, Dunmore; and Mary Hallinan, Scranton; as well as numerous  cousins; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Angelo Paulis; and paternal grandparents Eugene P. and Marjorie Whitford Hallinan.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Mary’s Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore.  Those friends attending the mass are asked to go directly to the church.  Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial contributions may be made to the KelceyStrong Scholarship Fund, c/o Fidelity Bank, 101 N. Blakely St., Dunmore, 18512.

Remember Forever

My heart is heavy and I am deeply sorry for your loss. I spent so many days and nights at the Hallinan house over the years and got to know everyone very well. Kelcey's spirited heart has always light up a room and her strength has amazed me throughout these years. She grew up to be the most beautiful person inside and out. I loved being her older band sibling and sharing the many performances in the plays and show choir together. She has touched so many lives and her memory will never be forgotten. I wish I could be there in person to say this, but I send my love and best wishes. I hope I can be even half as strong as Kelcey was. Forever Kelcey Strong<3
