Margaret M. Ruddy Kenny, RN.

Dunmore, PA January 15,1941 ~ August 1, 2017 Date of Service: August 5, 2017

Margaret M. Kenny, 76, of Dunmore, died Tuesday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. Her husband, the late Donald J., died Oct. 26, 1988. The couple was married for 25 years.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late James and Florence Regan Ruddy and was a graduate of Dunmore High School. She received her B.S. from Mercy School of Nursing, Scranton. She was a devout Catholic, served as a Eucharistic minister to the homebound, and was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore.

She was one of the founding members of the Father Patrick Peyton Society and held an annual May Crowning in her backyard for her grandchildren, a tradition spanning over 20 years. She was a woman of strong convictions, never wavering nor faltering, but always expressing them with true love. She selflessly gave of everything she had, reminding her children of one of her mantras: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." She exhibited prescient courage and strength nearly 40 years ago by surrendering her family to the God of her Understanding, proving that sacrificial love saves those willing to change. Her home, and her heart, was consistently open to all. After speaking with her and spending time with her one would leave refreshed and comforted, honestly knowing if Mom (or Aunt Margie) said "all will be well," it will be. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Our hearts will ache until we meet again but we know all is well.

Surviving are a daughter, Kerri Waters and husband, Gerald, Dunmore; sons, Thaddeus and wife, Erin, Clarks Summit; and Michael, Scranton; and 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Brennan, Joseph, Maggie, Jakob, Julia, Adam, Maya, Jade, Veronica, Rachel and Lily. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews. Her nurse friends have lost another of "the Sisters" but now LuLu has company.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jeanne Mangan and husband, Harold; Florence Wagner and husband, Don; and her beloved brother, James Ruddy and wife, Rose.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be sent to the Diocesan Annual Appeal at Development@dioceseofscranton.org.

I will miss her physical presence, but I know she is still with us, with a warm hand on our backs in our times of spiritual need.

Kerri - Our sincere sympathy to you and your family. Your Mom had an infectious smile, was a caring and loving nurse and a friend to all of us followers of Florence Nightingale. So many memories that I hope will help you ease the sorrow you feel.

RIP, Margie. A wonderful lady, and friend. With a warm smile and a loving hug, and talk whenever one was needed. Prayers to the family.
