Matthew Paul Sleboda, 61, of Dunmore, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday morning. He is survived by his wife, the former Jamie Decker. The couple had been married for 41 years.

Born in Scranton, he is the son of Irma Elaine Kinsey Sleboda and the late George Sleboda and was a graduate of Dunmore High School.

Matt dedicated much of his time to the education of others. Positive contributions to society were most important to him, and he helped anyone and everyone in any way he could. Affectionately known as “G” by his grandchildren, he was a loving and proud grandfather who adored his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Also surviving are his children, Jeffrey Paul Sleboda and Amy Marie Sleboda; grandson, Bailey Golden Sleboda; and granddaughter, Isabella Romanini, all of Dunmore.

Brothers Steven Sleboda and wife Rosemary, Mechanicsburg, PA; Roy Sleboda and wife Susan, Ashville, NY, and Martin Sleboda Dickson City.

He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, JoAnn Muro Sleboda.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci Golden-Desantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E Drinker St., Dunmore with Mass at 9:30am in St. Mary’s Church, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore.

Interment is private at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call Friday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.

Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Ronald McDonald House, 332 Wheeler Ave. Scranton, Pa 18510.

I have known Matthew most of my life when I lived on Sherwood Avenue in Dunmore. After I left the area for school and work, I would often see and chat with him during visits to Dunmore. Matt was a caring person and a good educator. He had a deep commitment to his students and family. He will be missed.
