Michael Joseph Zangardi, 32, Dunmore, died Wednesday at home.
Born April 1, 1980 in Scranton, he was the son of Armand and Pat Caterino Zangardi of Dunmore.
Michael attended Bishop O’Hara High School and graduated in 1998 from Scranton High School. He was a member of St. Paul’s Parish, Scranton. He was an extraordinary, loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He had an enormous capacity for loving those around him and he always enjoyed being with family and friends. He especially loved with all his heart his nieces, Pia and Mira Belle and his nephew Armand Paul Zangardi IV. His brother’s children always knew how much their Uncle Michael loved them.
He excelled in all sports, baseball, basketball, and football and loved the Dave Matthews Band.
The family would like to express a very special thank you for all the love, kindness, concern and professionalism Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli, Cindy Donovan and their staff exhibited to Michael. They were a gift in his life. Michael was always grateful for the special relationship that he had with Dr. Nick Colangelo and Dick Conaboy, who never gave up on him and whom he loved very much.
Also surviving are his loving brother, A.J. Zangardi, Scranton, a maternal grandmother, Marilla “Nanny” Gibbons Caterino, who he would visit every week and who he loved so much, Scranton, his aunt Addie Caterino Smith, and her husband Tom, Scranton, his uncle and godfather, Guy Caterino and his wife Joanne, Lake Ariel, an uncle Sandor “Sonny” Zangardi and his wife Bonnie, Wyoming, PA, a special aunt and godmother, Pattie Fricchione Barbuti and her husband Joe, Scranton, his girlfriend Tara Altman, Dunmore, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather Michael J. Caterino, and paternal grandparents, Armand and Jean Deutsch Zangardi.
The funeral will be Monday at 10:30am in St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Avenue Scranton. Interment will be private. All those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
The family will receive friends Sunday 3-6pm in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore.
