Murray Kaufman, 87, a resident of the Jewish Home and a former resident of Mulberry Towers, died Thursday in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife, the former Florence Fay Zlatin, died in 2000.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Jacob and Hattie Kaufman. Murray was a 1947 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and before retirement he was employed as a manager for both Tartan Foods, Philadelphia, and Wyoming Valley Distributing Co.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, whose true joy was his family. Murray enjoyed cooking, and as a resident of Mulberry Towers, was very active in arranging numerous social gatherings and trips for the other residents, and was a friend to all.

His family would like to thank the staffs of the Jewish Home and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the wonderful care given to Murray.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Brown, Texas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Cohen, Edwardsville; nieces and nephews; and his companion, Dottie Gani. 

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ilene Ward, in 2002.

A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday at noon in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery by his nephew, Rabbi Dr. Bernard Cohen.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Home, 1101 Vine St., Scranton, PA 18510; or to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St., Dunmore, PA 18512.

There is no local shiva.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Kaufman and his granddaughter at the emergency room of MTH , I am so sorry at his passing away. I wish to express
my sincere sympathy to the family.
