Shirley Friedman Greenwald, 93, Scranton, died early Wednesday morning in Scranton. She and her husband, Alvin Herbert Greenwald, had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on March 24th.
Born in Eynon on September 5, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Max and Helen Schweiger Friedman. Shirley was a lifelong member of Temple Israel in Scranton and its Sisterhood.
She was a 1940 graduate of Scranton Central High School and a 1942 graduate of Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, DC.
Shirley was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and last survivor of the five Friedman sisters. Above all Shirley cherished her lifelong relationships with friends and family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Along with her husband Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Carol G. Mazmanian and her husband Brian, Newton, MA, and Barbara Bock, New York City, four grandsons, Daniel Mazmanian and his wife Melissa Tooley, Washington, DC, Erik Mazmanian and his wife Nicole Staple, Chicago, Ill., Jonathan Bock, Brooklyn, NY, and Matthew Bock, Winston-Salem, NC, and a great granddaughter Kira Mazmanian.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Abrams, Flo Mason, Beverly Coplon, and Tobe Rosner.
A graveside funeral service will be held today at 10am in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Dunmore led by Rabbi Moshe Saks and Cantor Vladimir Aronzon.
Shiva will be held at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania following the service today from 12pm- 2pm and on Friday from 1pm-3pm.
