Virginia Notz Sabatelle, 74, formerly of Roaring Brook Township, died Saturday, July 19th at the Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Alexandria, VA. She was the widow of Salvatore J. Sabatelle, executive chef and former owner of Billy’s Restaurant in Dunmore, who died in 2000.
Born in Scranton, Virginia was the daughter of the late Dr. Francis (Frank) P. Notz and Cathryne Q. Notz. She graduated from Scranton Central High School and went on to Marywood College where she received her Bachelors degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. After an internship in New York City, she worked at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton as a dietitian and retired as the Head Dietitian after 30 years.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, and entertaining family at her home. Family was very important to her, and her nieces and nephews were a source of great pride and joy. Pool parties, cookouts, fondue parties, homemade ice cream, special birthday cakes, and of course the Christmas cookies, are some of the wonderful memories she leaves her family.
Surviving are a sister, Miriam Bradican and husband Paul of Bluffton, SC; a brother, Joseph P. Notz and wife Ellen of Seminole, FL; sister-in-law Belinda M. Notz of Fairfax, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Captain Frank P. Notz (ret. U.S. Navy) who died in 1999.
The funeral will be Tuesday with mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Catherine of Siena, Moscow.
Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
